An iron meteorite (brown exterior and etched silver interior)

These fragments of the Canyon Diablo iron meteorite are remnants of the asteroid that collided with the Earth to produce Meteor Crater in northern Arizona. The samples have dark brown outer surfaces and silver-colored interiors. The interior portion of the sample on the left has been etched in the laboratory to enhance the characteristic Widmanstätten pattern.
